Hamilton, Bermuda
A Few Fast Facts about Bermuda
Its a Commonwealth Country— this means they drive on the left, have high tea (which means a lot of workers take a break from 2-3pm), Bermuda has strict rules regarding people moving there— basically there are not people having vacation homes there and Bermudians can apply for a British Passport but not the other way around
Transportation is Tricky— no rental cars, cabs are super expensive, and no uber; plan to take the ferry, rent a scooter or twizy, or take the bus (so plan ahead as getting some where at the last minute is not gonna happen)
Tipping— most places go ahead and include a 17-20% gratuity on your bill, so always double check it!
Hamilton Princess & Beach Club
The Hamilton Princess is the oldest hotel on the island built in 1885, it’s also adorably pink! Its centrally located in Hamilton, it will cost you about $35 to get here from the airport.
They have a special Fairmont Gold Room that you can book, which means you’ll have a nicer room with a Harbor View.
Along with an ‘upgraded’ room you’ll have access to the Gold Lounge which serves breakfast daily, high tea, evening happy hour and hors devours, and late night sweets! The Gold Lounge is open 24/7 with its own concierge and check in desk, access to free snacks, coffee, juice, water and soda too! I def stopped in here for water before heading out anywhere as the humidity made it feel much warmer than it was!
The hotel is full of amazing modern and pop art which I LOVED! There was something new literally around every corner, even outside on the grounds. The hotel lawn is super gorgeous as well, and at night they have fire pits lit with seating— which would be so lovely in the winter!
The Beach Club
The Hamilton Princess has its own private beach for guests as well. The hotel provides a cute pink Jitney free of charge to and from the beach club. The beach club has lounge chairs with umbrellas that include a button you can press to have a server come over and take your order! There are lockers, sunscreen, spa water, restrooms with AC, showers, and of course towels all there and stocked for guests too.
I also loved that they provided lots of fun water recreation ‘toys’ at no extra charge— paddle boards, kayaks, snorkel gear, and floating loungers. I was more of a sit down and paddle board.
From The Hamilton Princess Beach Club you can walk about 10 min in either direction and be greeted by other hidden beaches and probably be the only human there! Horseshoe Bay Beach is also about a 10 min car ride, if you’re going to go here for photos I suggest getting up and going early.
If you fancy a game of tennis they have tennis courts available at the Beach Club, and surprise surprise— they are pink! They have everything out if you want to play or just volley back and forth!
Water Activities
I knew that I wanted to do some snorkeling in Bermuda as its something I love doing and they have really clear unpolluted water. Also the water is shockingly warm, unlike other places I have snorkeled. The hotel recommended a few different companies, KS Watersports had the best selection, multiple locations as well as something I’d never done before, which was jet skiing with a snorkeling at a few spots.
I was basically a nervous cat the whole time riding my jet ski. I think if I did it a few more times I would be more comfortable! It’s on my list of things to do in NYC by the Statue of Liberty. It was still a fun way to see many different spots on the island including the smallest draw bridge in the world! Somerset Bridge was built in 1620 and still operates today.
